1.        Follow the Uniform Discipline Code.

2.        Students must wear their student I.D.s at all times.  Students will not be allowed in the classroom without the I.D. properly displayed.

3.        Know instructions for fire drill and tornado drill.

4.        Show RESPECT for people, time, property, and classroom practices.  This includes appropriate language in the classroom!

5.        Do not talk when others are talking!  There will be consequences.

6.        Use your manners- please and thank you!

7.        Come to class prepared to learn, read, discuss, and participate in activities.

8.        NO FOOD in the classroom.

9.        Complete and submit work on time.  NO LATE WORK ACCEPTED!

10.     Write in pencil, black or blue ink only!

11.     Neatness counts!  Use white out or eraser for mistakes instead of scribbling.  A grade of zero will be given if assignment is not neat, this includes eligible writing.  I must be able to read your work!

12.     DO NOT leave assignments on my desk or in my mailbox (unless directed to do so).  If you are absent, turn work in directly to me.  If your work is found on my desk or in my mailbox, I will count the work as late and you will receive a ZERO.  All work must be placed in your group folder on your way in or out of class.

13.     If you are suspended, it is YOUR responsibility to let me know ahead of time so you can get assignments.  These assignments will be due the day you return to school or receive a grade of ZERO.

14.     Permit must be signed by me BEFORE a function.  You are responsible for missed work and turning in assignment that is due that day before you participate in function.  Also, permits will only be signed if student is currently receiving a C or better in class.

15.     Plagiarism, turning in work of others as your own, not following test rules, or cheating of any sort will result in a zero on the assignment and disciplinary action.

Everyday 10 participation points will be awarded for doing the following:

·         Being on time to class

·         Having materials (pen/pencil, binder)

·         Not disrupting the class or interrupting

·         Not calling out answers

·         Participating in class lessons

·         Not using bad language

·         Helping others

·         Not leaving messes (including papers)

·         Respecting each other

Consistent disruptive behavior, absences, tardies, or failing to do homework assignments will result in a conference with parent/guardian.

Grades:

A= 92%- 100%

B= 85%-91%

C= 77%-84%

D= 70%-76%

F= 0%-69%

Breakdown of grades:  25% Homework, 25% Tests/Quizzes, 25% Labs/Participation/ Attendance/Attitude, 25% Projects

Homework: Homework will include readings from textbook, written section and chapter reviews, articles, research work, laboratory write ups, etc. Assignments will be checked at the beginning of class.  All assignments MUST BE IN YOUR BINDER to be given credit for completion.  NOTE: If you are tardy to class you may not be able to turn in homework.

Late work WILL NOT be accepted.  Late work will graded as a zero and included in general grade average except for valid reasons- illness, family emergencies, religious holidays, and death in immediate family.  The following are not valid reasons for not having your homework- leaving it in your locker or at home, ruining it at lunch or losing it, not being able to get into your locker because you lost your key, forgetting to show it to me on the day of your return from an absence, etc.

Assignments for the week are will be given at the beginning of each week and written on the board.  If a student is absent at the beginning of the week it is his/her responsibility to copy assignments upon return from a group member and complete them as assigned. If a student is absent during the week, the assignment is due the day of return and it is the student’s responsibility to make sure that the assignment is handed in to me.  Other assignments may be given in class so a student must check with me upon returning from an absence to get a possible assignment. All assignments and due dates will be posted on the class website and if a student is absent, they must print it and turn it in upon return.

Tests/Quizzes:  Tests will be given at the end of every chapter and at other times during a chapter.  Students will have adequate notice of test dates.  In the event that a student is absent on a test day, the student MUST make the test up the day he/she returns to school.  If the test is not made up on the day of return, the student will receive a grade of zero and it will be included in the general grade average.  Quizzes will be given announced or unannounced (pop quizzes- do your homework!).  Some quizzes will be given at the beginning of class (right after bell rings).  Students coming in tardy (after bell rings) will NOT be allowed to take quiz and will receive a zero for that quiz.

Final Exam: A final exam will be given the last week of each semester and will count as 10% of the semester grade.  The exam will cover all topics in each semester.

ATTENDANCE:   Students are required to be in class on time every day. Students walking in after the bell rings will be marked tardy.  Every five tardies/5 absences results in your grade being lowered a full letter grade at the end of your quarter.  NO EXCEPTIONS!    Be on time to class!  If the student is not in theirrhecked seat when the bell rings, you are marked tardy.

Every day there will be a daily question on the board that needs to be answered within the 2-3 minutes at the beginning of each class.  These questions and answers will be checked everyday for participation points.  If a student is absent it is his/her responsibility to get from another student the question given on the day of his/her absence to receive points.  Every student should have every question regardless of absence.

If a student is absent for an extended period of time (more than 3-4 days) it is a good idea to get in touch with me so I can give assignments the student will be missing.  Assignments will also be posted on my website.  This will help ensure that the student will not get too far behind during his/her absence.

Upon return from an absence (even 1 day) a student must either have a note from a parent or guardian or a reinstatement from 205.  It is the responsibility of the student to have a letter or reinstatement at the beginning of class.  The student should promptly give me the letter upon entering the room.  If a student does not have the letter from a parent/guardian, he/she needs to go to Room 205 (attendance office) to obtain a reinstatement and will also be marked tardy to class.

Truancies will be written up and dealt with through the attendance office.  See Uniform Discipline code Book.  Truancies also result in loss of daily points:  homework will not be accepted if you are truant and you will lose the points for any lab/assignment/test given plus an additional 100 points will be deducted from your grade!

Items you will need for my class:  Every day you must bring the following:

·          Binder (3 ring binder with loose leaf paper) to take notes in.  It is very important to keep all of your biology notes in the binder.  Each section will be divided by a divider.  This will keep you organized!

·          Loose Leaf paper

·          A blue or black pen and #2 pencil

·          Red pen or pencil

You need to bring in these materials EVERYDAY.  I will check for them daily and points will deducted for participation if the materials are not with the student during class.  Organization is very important!  If your classroom materials are disorganized, points will be deducted from participation, as well as homework points for assignments that you can not find.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES:

1.        Enter class QUIETLY and sit down BEFORE the bell rings (otherwise the student will be marked tardy)

2.        Take out Homework and answer the Daily Question QUIETLY (otherwise the student will not get homework stamp/points for question)

3.        If the student does not have materials (pen/paper) they must RAISE their hand and borrow from me (not their neighbor) (this will result in loss of participation points)

4.        When working in Lab groups, the noise level must be kept low (otherwise it will be done as individual work)

5.        During class lessons, the student must RAISE their hand to answer/ask a question (otherwise points will be deducted)

6.        I will dismiss the class.  If students get up before the bell rings or pack up their things before the bell rings points will be deducted and everyone will stay until I dismiss them
